POSITION Finance Director  
  BACKGROUND John entered the radio industry in 1977 joining Radio Trent as Company Accountant straight from the accountancy profession. He was Company Secretary from 1981 and subsequently Finance Director. Responsible for setting up of all IT systems (including scheduling of commercials) from 1979 onwards. Integral part of the management team launching stations in Leicester (Leicester Sound - 1984) and Derby (Ram FM - 1987). He was then instrumental in bringing about the merger with BRMB & Mercia Sound in 1989 to form Midlands Radio plc becoming Finance Director and Company Secretary of the Group and all operating subsidiaries. Following the merger he responsible throughout for all operational financial and accounting matters including the successful re-licencing of all stations and dealing with IBA & Radio Authority. He dealt with all the financial aspects of the flotation of Midlands Radio on the Stock Exchange in 1990, including co-ordinating all dealings with advisors - merchant bank (Lazards), brokers (Cazenove), lawyers (Eversheds) and reporting accountants (KPMG). He was also responsible for setting up and running all the financial systems for Midlands Radio and dealt with all reporting requirements of the Stock Exchange. As the consolidation of radio ownership continued he subsequently oversaw the sale of the business to Capital Radio in early 1993. On the completion of that process, he was appointed Company Secretary of Capital Radio (with particular responsibility for IT systems development) and was also involved in acquisitions and disposals of various businesses. He left the Capital Group at the end of 1994 to establish his own business PBA. PBA is an independent company offering a variety of accounting, financial and systems consultancy and, of fundamental importance, hands-on solutions - actually taking responsibility for bringing the project through to successful completion. The overall aim is to offer high quality, cost-effective solutions taking advantage of the broad-based experience gained above. The common thread linking it all together is the commercial background rooted as it is on setting up and actually running accounting and admin departments, particularly within the radio industry. Involved in building businesses from the ground up right through to flotation. The current and recent client base is varied and includes work for Trinity-Mirror, Daily Mail & General Trust, Newsquest and Regional Independent Media. PBA has always maintained strong radio industry connections (including projects for GWR, SAGA Radio, Non Metropolitan Radio, Border Radio Holdings and Central European Broadcasting in conjunction with the BBC World Service). Projects undertaken have included analogue and digital applications, systems implementation, management accounting and running the entire accounting function of various radio businesses.
