A consortium including entrepreneurs from the early days of UK and Yorkshire commercial radio is promising to deliver a new broadcasting format with the public launch today of a new bid for the coveted FM licence for West and South Yorkshire. Nova 106 pledges to give listeners a broad mix of contemporary and classic album rock music combined with high quality regional news, information and features geared to an adult audience.

Newsquest, the UK's largest regional newspaper group, is backing the bid consortium, Yorkshire Radio Enterprises Ltd and will underpin Nova's news service and use its Internet expertise to support broadcast activities. Newsquest regional managing director Tim Blott said:

"Radio is part of our broadening long term commitment to providing information and entertainment to local communities. We are heavily involved in press and new media and radio is a natural extension of that.
